Are Publix stores open during Hurricane Helene? (2024)

WE’RE NOT THERE YET. BUT IT’S CLOSE. IT HAS WINDS OF 70MPH. AND I DO BELIEVE AT THE 11:00 ADVISORY, UNLESS A SPECIAL UPDATE THIS WE WILL SEE HURRICANE HELENE. BUT RIGHT NOW IT’S STILL A TROPICAL STORM WITH WINDS OF 70MPH. PRESSURE IS NOW DOWN TO 979 MILLIBARS. AT THE 8:00 OR. EXCUSE ME, 5:00 ADVISORY. IT WAS AT 985 MILLIBARS. SO THE PRESSURE IS DROPPING. OUR WINDS WILL PICK UP AND FROM THERE IT’S GOING TO RAPIDLY INTENSIFY. NOW, I DO WANT TO TALK ABOUT OUR FORECAST AT HOME. A LITTLE BIT MORE IN DEPTH. HOUR BY HOUR, BECAUSE I KNOW A LOT OF US HAVE PLANS TODAY. THEN TOMORROW WE’LL START TO SEE THOSE EFFECTS REALLY BEGIN TO INCREASE. BUT AT LEAST FOR THIS MORNING, WE’RE ON THE DRY SIDE. IT’S ACTUALLY NOT A BAD START TO OUR MORNING. WE’LL HAVE A COUPLE OF SHOWERS, ROLL ON IN. NOTHING SEVERE, BUT THEN GOING INTO THE AFTERNOON, A FEW MORE POP UP SHOWERS, A COUPLE OF THUNDERSTORMS, AND THEN LATE TONIGHT WE’LL HAVE A COUPLE OF FEEDER BANDS WORK ON IN AND IT’LL BE DURING THIS TIME THAT WE MAY HAVE A STRONGER STORM OR TWO. ALTHOUGH OUR SEVERE WEATHER THREAT IS ON THE LOWER END EARLY TOMORROW MORNING, 1:00 IN THE MORNING, SOME HEAVIER RAINFALL ALONG I-95. A BRIEF BREAK IN THAT RAIN BY LATE MORNING EARLY AFTERNOON, AND THEN OUR RAIN THEN BEGINS TO PICK BACK UP ONCE AGAIN AS HELENE GETS CLOSER. NOW, THIS RUN OF OUR FUTURECAST IN-HOUSE MODEL SHOWING A LITTLE BIT MORE OF A CLOSER HUG. REGARDLESS, WE’RE STILL LOOKING AT HEAVY RAINFALL, VERY STRONG WINDS BY THURSDAY NIGHT IN MARION COUNTY, ESPECIALLY WESTERN MARION COUNTY, WHERE THEY HAVE THAT HURRICANE WARNING IN EFFECT. AND ALONG I-75, RAIN CONTINUES TO SPREAD. THURSDAY NIGHT INTO FRIDAY MORNING, AND A COUPLE OF THUNDERSTORMS AS WELL. AND IT WILL BE DURING THAT TIME PERIOD THAT WE COULD SEE THE POTENTIAL OF SCATTERED, SEVERE STORMS MORE ALONG THE LINES OF A SPIN UP. POSSIBLE TORNADOES GOING TO BE THE BIGGEST CONCERN, BUT LOOK AT FRIDAY MORNING ONCE HELENE BOOKS OUT OF THE OUT OF FLORIDA, MOVES UP INTO GEORGIA. WE ARE JUST ACTUALLY LEFT WITH REALLY NICE CONDITIONS FOR THE REST OF FRIDAY. IT’S JUST GOING TO BE EARLIER ON IN THE DAY. THAT WILL BE WATCHING THAT. BUT RAIN GOING TO BE A CONCERN AS WELL AS A POTENTIAL OF A FEW STRONG TO SEVERE STORMS. WE’RE REALLY GOING TO BE WATCHING FOR SOME STRONGER STORMS. THE POTENTIAL OF TORNADOES. ERIC YEAH, AND AS A MATTER OF FACT, THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE, IN CONJUNCTION WITH THE LOCAL WEATHER SERVICE OFFICES AND THE HURRICANE CENTER, IDENTIFYING THAT THERE IS, IN FACT AN INCREASING THREAT. SO GIVEN THE FORWARD MOMENTUM OF HELENE, WE’RE GOING TO BE ON THAT RIGHT SIDE OF IT. AND ANY TIME YOU GET THIS SPOT AS YOUR LANDFALL LOCATION, YOU HAVE THAT ADDED SHEAR, BECAUSE THESE THINGS ROTATE COUNTERCLOCKWISE AND THUS YOU FIND YOURSELF IN A HIGHER THREAT FOR AN ISOLATED TORNADO. USUALLY THEY’RE WEAK, USUALLY THEY’RE RAIN WRAPPED, BUT IT’S JUST ONE OF THOSE THINGS TO DEAL WITH. OKAY, NOW WHEN DOES THE WEATHER START TO GO DOWNHILL FOR US HERE IN CENTRAL FLORIDA? WE’RE THINKING FROM THE ORLANDO METRO SOUTH. IT’S MORE OF A LATE MORNING TO EARLY AFTERNOON TYPE THING IN THE NORTHERN AREAS, IT’S EARLY AFTERNOON TO EVENING OKAY, BUT BASICALLY IT’S GOING TO BE KIND OF MIDDAY INTO THE AFTERNOON. WE’LL HAVE TO GET INTO THE NITTY GRITTY TO REALLY SEE, BUT WE’LL BE WATCHING THAT LATEST FORECAST DATA VERY IN LINE WITH WHAT THE DEPUTY DIRECTOR OF THE HURRICANE CENTER JUST SPOKE WITH KELLIANNE KLASS ABOUT THE IDEA THAT THESE WINDS ARE SO FAR REACHING. OKAY, TROPICAL STORM FORCE WIND GUSTS EXPECTED ACROSS OUR AREA. THE STRONGER TROPICAL STORM FORCE WINDS ARE GOING TO BE HANGING OUT JUST WEST OF OCALA. THAT’S THE 60 MILE PER HOUR WINDS. THE REDS AND PURPLES YOU SEE HERE. THAT’S THE HURRICANE. AND MAJOR HURRICANE WINDS. SO WE’RE NOT EXPECTING THAT. AND EVEN IF THERE’S A LITTLE BIT OF A NUDGE ONE WAY OR ANOTHER, WE’RE STILL TALKING ABOUT A DECENT TROPICAL STORM TYPE EVENT. LOOK AT THE OVERALL SIZE OF THESE TROPICAL STORM FORCE WINDS. OKAY. THIS IS THE DATA FROM THE HURRICANE CENTER’S LATEST FORECAST ADVISORY AS IT’S COMING ASHORE. WE’RE ALL UNDER TROPICAL STORM FORCE WINDS. AT LEAST THAT WIND FIELD EXTENDS ALL THE WAY, WAY OFF THE SHORE LINE. SO IT’S THE SHEER SIZE AND SCALE OF HELENE. THAT SAID, FOR TODAY, WE START TO SEE SOME OF THOSE OUTER BANDING FEATURES. SO 50 TO 60% COVERAGE OF SHOWERS AND STORMS STARTING TO MOVE INTO OUR AREA. OTHERWISE, IT’S A FAIRLY NORMAL WEATHER DAY. TODAY IS NOT GOING TO BE A BIG IMPACT DAY UNTIL SOME OF THOSE DOWNPOURS MOVE IN LATER. THEN FOR TOMORROW. FIRST WARNING WEATHER DAY HIGHLIGHTED IN RED. THAT’S THE DAY THAT WE’VE GOT THAT ROUGH WEATHER. THE TROPICAL STORM CONDITIONS EXPECTED IN OUR AREA FRIDAY, SATURDAY, SUNDAY WE GET BACK TO NORMAL, WHICH IS GREAT NEWS. WE GET TO GO ON WITH OUR LIVES AND HOPEFULLY NOT HAVE TO DEAL WITH ANYTHING ELSE THIS HURRICANE SEASON. I WON'
